Hametz & Picascia - Sculptura

Sculptura, or poly-L-lactic acid, is a synthetic injectable material that is injected below the surface of the skin in areas of volume loss or thinning.  Following injections, over 6 to 12 weeks the body will produce its own collagen to naturally fill these areas.

Over time, the volume and elastic nature of the skin is decreased due to the natural aging process.  Underlying bone and fat tissue becomes thinner and often moves into different positions on the face, leading to an appearance of aged, wrinkled skin.  Often, this three dimensional volume loss in the central portion of the face can lead to lines and wrinkles in other areas, including the nasolabial folds and the jowls below the mouth.

Three dimensional volume loss is best treated by restoring the body's natural scaffolding throughout the central and outer portions of the face, which will tighten the overlying skin, leading to decreased wrinkling and a return to more fullness of the facial features.

Sculptura can be used to restore this volume and contour without the need for general anesthesia or invasive surgical procedures.  This material is injected under the skin, where microscopic particles stimulate the body to produce its own collagen over time, which creates a natural appearing correction of wrinkles, jowls, deep lines, and scars.  The results, which are noted over 6 to 12 weeks, have been found in studies to for last up to 2 years.  Some patients do require touchups to enhance or maintain the effect of the product.

The injections are performed in the office with topical anesthetic and local anesthesia mixed with the product.  There is almost no downtime, with most patients returning to their normal activites immediately following treatment.
